Day 1 - HMA Developing a Quality Application
This 4-hour training will be facilitated by GOHSEP Hazard Mitigation section providing step-by-step instruction on navigating FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs, including HMGP and FMA. Designed for local officials, emergency managers, grant administrators, and planners. This course covers everything from hazard mitigation fundamentals and eligible activities to application development, benefit-cost analysis, and post-award compliance. Participants will engage in activities with real-world examples, and learn best practices in the areas of:
· Project Planning
· Budgeting
· Scope of Work Development
· Reporting
FEMA HMA programs eligibility and match requirements.
Utilize GOHSEP Grants for application submission and management.
Recognize common application and post-award compliance issues.
Apply knowledge through interactive activities and case-based learning.
·By the end of the session, attendees will understand how to align projects with local mitigation plans, avoid common application mistakes, and effectively manage awarded grants in compliance with FEMA and state requirements.
Day 2 - EMPG & SHSP Navigating the Process
Preparedness grants support our citizens and first responders within the State of Louisiana to build, sustain and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from and mitigate terrorism and other high-consequence disasters and emergencies. This 4-hour training course will be facilitated by the GOHSEP Preparedness Grants section offering participants the opportunity to receive hands-on training within the GOHSEP Grants database from accepting the preparedness grants award to processing reimbursement. Participants will also receive foundational knowledge in the areas of:
· Preparedness Grants Funding
· Quarterly Report Compliance
· Common Preparedness Grant Issues
· Preparedness Grant Deadlines
By the end of the course, participants will have a well-rounded understanding of the Preparedness grants process
in order to more efficiently navigate the GOHSEP grants database system.

This is a 2-day course. LAPTOPS ARE REQUIRED. This class is split into different times:
Day one is 12 pm to 4 pm
Day two is 8 am to 12 pm*** All participants must bring their laptops or computers for engagement purposes.***
**If lodging/meal is requested, GOHSEP/LEPA will complete reservations for lodging and send a confirmation email (with hotel and address and numbers) for those requests. (DEADLINE for requesting lodging/meals: July 14, 2025,). Confirmation emails will be sent by the 20th or before. Check-in will be after 3:00 pm on the 22nd - after class you will be able to check in and the hotel and they will have your name on a list (if you requested lodging).- Cancelled On
